ABSTRACT

There is something powerful about having a student take on the role of an individual to try and solve a problem from that viewpoint. It offers perspective and context to the situation and allows the student to feel empathy for the individual, whereas otherwise there might have been detachment. Simulations are somewhat similar to role-playing in that they involve taking on a real-world experience. Mentors bridge the gap between the classroom and real world. Introducing mentors into our classroom can be done in a few different ways. Usually a mentorship involves more than just one interaction. A content mentor helps students with something they are doing in school.
