ABSTRACT

Career education is a potentially valuable part of the curriculum for gifted children, and in many ways it is uniquely so. Career education is different from career choice. The literature on career education documents the problems it can ameliorate, but so far it says little about the particular contribution or effectiveness of specific curricular program models, content, or outcomes. Research informs our knowledge base on career education to the extent that there are problematic areas of gifted children's career thinking and decision making that could be informed by specific topics, and the experience is well received by students. The research literature stops short of validating specific practices or career curricular models. Career education curricular advice is abundant, but untested. Recent writing about giftedness and careers has focused more on career thinking rather than career education.
