ABSTRACT

Although the media relay messages, girls, too, convey their own messages through the language they use, the tone of their voice, and their body language. This chapter explores how girls impact others with the way they deliver their own messages to their friends, family, teachers, and the public. Because girls may find themselves in situations in which they are the only female or one of the few in certain settings, such as an advanced calculus class or a math club, they need to learn to speak confidently in those situations and be comfortable with standing out. Assertive communication is a powerful and smart way to convey a message. Public speaking is one of the most common fears. Solid preparation is key to giving a great presentation.
