ABSTRACT

Outdoor activities and trips, whether they are specifically focused on STEM or not, provide girls with opportunities to experience enrichment, a sense of adventure, and interactions with role models. Extended outdoor activities and trips can mean immersive STEM experiences and exposure to applications of STEM to real-world challenges. One fun activity that can be used in an endless number of variations is the scavenger hunt. Most children love to play with bubbles. The STEM principles involved in this activity are surface tension, evaporation, air pressure, and light reflection. Exploring interactive STEM environments can happen in an infinite number of ways if we and our daughter are up for the adventure, challenge, and enjoyment of going on a trip. Science and natural history museums are wonderful places to visit.
