ABSTRACT

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts (ELA) are K–12 curriculum standards that describe the English language arts skills and concepts students need to develop for success in higher education and the 21st-century workplace. The College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards are the basis of the ELA/literacy standards. They specify the core knowledge and skills needed, while grade-specific standards provide specificity. The ELA standards also establish guidelines for literacy in history/social studies, science, and technical subjects for grades 6–12. With the adoption of the CCSS in nearly every state, gifted and advanced learners need opportunities to master grade-level standards and ELA skills and concepts with greater depth, rigor, and understanding. This book is one of a series of books developed in conjunction with the Center for Gifted Education at William & Mary intended to give gifted and advanced learners additional practice and activities to master and engage with the CCSS for ELA.
