ABSTRACT

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts (ELA) are K–12 curriculum standards that describe the English language arts skills and concepts students need to develop for success in higher education and the 21st-century workplace. CCSS for ELA are K–12 curriculum standards that describe the English language arts skills and concepts students need to develop for success in higher education and the 21st-century workplace. With the adoption of the CCSS in nearly every state, gifted and advanced learners need opportunities to master grade-level standards and ELA skills and concepts with greater depth, rigor, and understanding. The Literature Analysis Model encourages students to consider seven aspects of a selection they are reading: key words, tone, mood, imagery, symbolism, key ideas, and the structure of writing.
