ABSTRACT

This unit centers on the theme of gaining respect after making a mistake, or how one earns respect. Within the unit, students will read, analyze, evaluate, and interpret poetry, memoirs, and other fiction and nonfiction texts that examine how characters/people reacted to personal and cultural struggles in nonviolent and productive ways to earn respect. Students will consider decisions people make to help and benefit others and how that may earn them others’ respect, exploring how “Respect is harder earned than lost.” Students will demonstrate their growing understanding of this theme through various projects, research, informational writing, argumentative writing, and presentations.
