ABSTRACT
This unit centers on the theme of how people often look at the external appearance of others without taking the time to get to know them. Within the unit, students will read, analyze, evaluate, and interpret literary and informational texts about people and characters who have faced unfair judgment and how they reacted. Students will consider ways in which people may treat others based on cultural or personal bias and how it may not be right to “judge a book by its cover.” Students will demonstrate their growing understanding of this theme through various projects, vocabulary analysis, research, informational writing, analytical writing, and presentations.
