ABSTRACT

The ingredients of self-knowledge for adolescents are reflective self-exploration, academic planning, intellectual and social/emotional enrichment, decision-making skills, and effective work and study skills, including time management. Many states offer a residential Governor's School program only to students who are between their junior and senior year. Although colleges are concerned with the outside enrichment opportunities a student undertakes to explore interests, their primary concern remains the student's ability to be successful under stressful, challenging academic conditions. Exemption or AP credit varies among colleges and is offered at the discretion of each college. In late 2013, ACT launched ACT Profile, designed for high school students to use with their counselors to help in the college-search process. However, speakers should be carefully chosen for their ability to relate to adolescents.
