ABSTRACT

The application process is discussed from two points of view: that of the multi-potential gifted student, who may be able to make rational choices, but whose options are infinite; and that of the admissions officer, who may have to select the freshman class from a wide range of highly qualified applicants. Students need more refined tools if they are to apply to a highly selective school. An increasingly popular solution is college admission prep camps. Independent counselors spend time visiting colleges and universities and frequently have relationships with admissions staff members. Colleges look favorably upon transcripts showing increasing academic rigor during 4 years of high school. The college planning process has been thoroughly infused with technology. Standardized test scores supplement high school transcripts and permit admissions officer to compare all applicants with one standard. Educating a gifted student after high school is not a one-shot, one-year affair. Gifted students often invest heavily in both time and money in post-high-school education.
