ABSTRACT

Most of the mysteries in this book include exercises that require students to get clues by working grid or matrix logic puzzles. If students have not had practice solving logic puzzles using a grid, it is important to give them some instruction and practice. If the students have not done logic puzzles using a grid, take them step-by-step through the process. The book begins with three activities that are designed to introduce students to solving these puzzles. In the first puzzle, clue 1 tells the reader that Kyle's costume was not the headless horseman. In the second puzzle on page 12, clue 1 tells the reader that the alien did not win the prize for the scariest costume or the most creative costume. Therefore, the headless horseman must have won the most creative prize. At a neighborhood Halloween party, Kyle, Luke, and Matt won prizes for the Halloween costumes they were wearing.
