ABSTRACT

There are different ways to use instructional menus in the inclusive classroom. One way that is often overlooked is using menus to review or build background knowledge before a unit begins. Introducing menus for enrichment and supplementary activities is the most common way of using menus. A shorter menu covering the previous years’ objectives can be provided in the weeks prior to the new unit so that students have the opportunity to recall and engage with the information in a meaningful way. Another option for using menus in the classroom is to replace certain curricular activities the teacher uses to teach the specified content. Yet another option for menu use is the use of mini-lessons, with the menus driving the accompanying classroom activities. The Game Show menu usually works very well with this method of instruction, as the topics across the top usually lend themselves to these mini-lessons.
