ABSTRACT

The most common reason teachers feel uncomfortable with menus is the need for equal grading. Teachers often feel that it is easier to grade the same type of product made by all of the students than to grade a large number of different products, none of which looks like any other. The great equalizer for hundreds of different products is a generic rubric that can cover all of the important qualities of an excellent product. The rubric can also be given to students to keep in their folders with their product guideline cards so they always know the expectations as they complete projects throughout the school year. Although the all-purpose rubric can be used for all activities, there is one occasion that seems to warrant a special rubric: student presentations. The rubric will need to be discussed and various criteria demonstrated before the students begin preparing presentations.
