ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the different types of products used in the included menus as well as guidelines and expectations for each. Some of the products may be listed under more than one area depending on how they are presented or implemented. The specific expectations for all of the products are presented in an easy-to-read card format that can be reproduced for students. One of the most commonly used products in a language arts classroom is the story map. Students can become so engulfed in the products and the criteria for creating them that they do not focus on the content being synthesized. Most frustrations associated with the varied products placed on menus can be addressed proactively through the use of standardized, predetermined product guidelines. By providing them in advance, each student has his or her copy to use while working on menu products during school year. Using a ring also allows for the addition of products as they are introduced.
