ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the different types of products included in the featured menus, as well as the guidelines and expectations for each. It is very important that students know the expectations of a completed product when they choose to work on it. Some products may be listed in more than one area, depending on how they are presented or implemented. The format is convenient for students to have in front of them when they work on their products. Some teachers prefer to give only a few product guidelines at a time, while others will provide more cards so students feel comfortable venturing out in their free choices. One of the most commonly used products in language arts is the story map. The story map is a quick and effective way for a student to dissect a story and show that he or she can analyze the important parts of the story.
