ABSTRACT

As with writing, primary students can make choices on their own, but when the teacher provides background knowledge and assistance, those choices become more meaningful, and the products become richer. Many a great educator has referred to the idea that the best learning takes place when students have a desire to learn. By incorporating different activities from which to choose, students stretch beyond what they already know, and teachers create a void that needs to be filled. All products carry the same weight for grading and have similar expectations for completion time and effort. The enrichment options can be used for extra credit or replace another meal option at the teacher's discretion. Students will usually submit their first request for a very high number. For example, a PowerPoint presentation with a vocabulary word quiz would get minimal points, although it may have taken a long time to create.
