ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the different types of products used in the included menus as well as guidelines and expectations for each. Some of the products may be listed under more than one area depending on how they are presented or implemented. The specific expectations (guidelines) for all of the products are presented in an easy-to-read card format that can be reproduced for students. Students can become so engulfed in the products and the criteria for creating them that they do not focus on the content being synthesized. Most frustrations associated with the varied products placed on menus can be addressed proactively using standardized, predetermined product guidelines. Some teachers prefer to expose students to products as students experience them on their menus. No matter which method teachers select to share the product guideline information with the students, teachers will save themselves a lot of time and frustration by having the product guidelines available for student reference.
