ABSTRACT

Dinosaurs were not the only creatures that lived during the Mesozoic Era. Some familiar animals of today go back to the age of the dinosaurs. Jellyfish began life long before dinosaurs arrived, and they outlasted them by millions more years. Corals may be fragile, but they have figured out ways to survive since the Mesozoic Era. Hybodus much like modern sharks. A long spine in front of the dorsal fin was distinctive and may have been used for defense, or to help Hybodus cut through the water with ease. Fossil impressions show that Lepidotes was covered in thick, diamond-shaped scales. It fed by pushing out its jaws and inhaling shellfish to crush in its jaws. Pliosaurus could rival sharks and even Tyrannosaurus. Its enormous mouth had foot-long, spiked teeth and jaws that could crush victims with much more force than T. rex. A long, lean, muscular body made Xiphactinus a strong swimmer.
