ABSTRACT

In the days leading up to the unit, give the students an overview of what they will be doing (i.e., running their own economy and filling various positions in that economy). Students may be given opportunities to earn capital in various ways. Students also complete the economics pre-assessment. introduce the concepts of powerful public speaking and marketing’s “four P’s,”— product, price, place, and promotion—and announce that students with successful sales pitches may be selected to run for office. The economy’s leaders must be excellent communicators, but—just as in real life—they do not necessarily need to possess the most economic knowledge.
