ABSTRACT

Context includes people, process, procedures, and places; it surrounds us at home and at work and influences our feelings, attitudes, and actions. Context includes internal and external factors that encourage or block creativity. Within a classroom, the context includes teachers, students, physical facilities; and equipment; and a variety of outside factors, such as parents, administrators, community resource people and groups, the curriculum, local attitudes and support, and official policies and expectations. More specifically, however, in this chapter, we're concerned with the climate: for creativity and innovation in education. The context of our classroom involves the influence's of many people and systems. When freedom is present, opportunities are provided for goal setting, independence, and self-directed learning.
