ABSTRACT

This chapter describes six steps to take in laying a foundation for creative teaching and learning and ways to respond to the needs of learners who are at the four different levels of performance in relation to Creativity. For students, programming can focus on recognizing and nurturing their emerging characteristics, strengthening their competence, and helping them gain confidence in their own creative abilities. Students whose present level of performance is located in the "Expressing" column have already demonstrated competence and are growing in Confidence about their creative abilities. Finally, students whose present level of performance is in the "Excelling" Column have already demonstrated highly significant levels of creative thinking skill. In working with students who are excelling creatively educators should continue to customize, personalize, and add to their repertoire of tools and strategies for working successfully on the real problems the students choose for their work.
