ABSTRACT

This chapter lists the guidelines for generating and focusing ideas, and helps us think of ways we can help our students understand and apply these important guidelines. Effective creativity draws on both generating ideas and focusing our thinking working in harmony. Applying these guidelines can take some practice, but the end results can be beneficial to everyone involved. Likewise with the focusing guidelines, we may need to remind some students to use affirmative judgment. Adults and young people alike have difficulty in holding back on how they feel about ideas. Freewheeling takes practice. As we generate options, it is often easy to slide into the kind of thinking that is easy, drifting along with habits of thought and basically ending up in a rut.
