ABSTRACT

This chapter describes and explains four ways that creativity and innovation are important to contemporary educational issues and priorities. It discusses practical implications of creativity for students and adults regarding mentoring, at-risk students, curriculum standards, and technology as examples of significant opportunities and challenges for schools and, schooling today. The creative opportunities and benefits of such relationships apply for both the mentor and the mentee. Mentoring can have a powerful, positive effect on performance in many contexts, including for children and youth in creative development and in talent development programming, for at-risk young people from minority groups. The formidable challenges in guiding and supporting at-risk students and enabling them to become, successful personally and academically also involve creative opportunities.
