ABSTRACT

This chapter describes four important purposes of research on creativity, discusses nine general approaches to research and gives examples of ways each approach might be used in studying creativity. It reviews current research on creativity and identified future research needs in relation to the nature and definition of creativity, identification of creativity, and nurturing creativity. The chapter describes that creativity had been established as a viable and worthwhile educational goal, but that many questions remained to be addressed to make its nurture or development practical in educational situations. Nearly three decades later, many of the same broad issues, themes, opportunities, and needs still exist, and several additional areas of concern about creativity in education have emerged.
