ABSTRACT

The success of a democracy is dependent on an educated populace. The election of a President and Vice President of the United States is unique in that the candidates who receive most of the votes by the citizens may not necessarily be the winners. By holding a simulated presidential election, the students will understand their Electoral College system, and they will become aware of the many steps involved in electing a President and Vice President. Upon completing the simulation, the students should have a good understanding of our country's multiparty system, the purpose of political conventions, voter registration, campaigning, and the Electoral College. During the simulation, all students will become actively involved and should be well on their way to becoming more informed voters as adults. During the simulation, the people must remain an unbiased observer and consultant.
