ABSTRACT

The census is taken every 10 years, so information gathered in the 2010 census will affect all elections until the census in 2020. It is imperative that the students understand the entire election process. Early in the simulation, the people want to explain to the students that there are certain eligibility rules if someone wishes to become President or Vice President of the United States. One of the more important things the people will do is decide how to divide up the states’ electoral votes among the students. In the case of multiple classes, each class should be divided into groups of voters, with each group representing one or several states. Three people, then, may vote individually (popular vote), but as a group, they will submit only one electoral ballot for the candidate who received the majority of their votes for each state they represent.
