ABSTRACT

Implementation guide assists the teacher in implementing this unit in his or her classroom. It also includes background information about the instructional models utilized throughout the unit. It is important for teachers implementing this unit to read it in depth before beginning instruction. Conferences and training workshops sponsored through the Center for Gifted Education can help teachers understand the core components of the unit and provide informal tips for teaching it. Teachers should always read the literature selections or listen to the musical selections before assigning them to students and be aware of what the school and/or district policy is on the use of materials that may be deemed controversial. There are five teaching models that are used in the unit to facilitate student achievement toward the unit objectives. These models include: identity chart, literature analysis model, primary source document analysis model, music analysis model, and art analysis model.
