ABSTRACT

Students will need different materials for different projects. Many of them will need access to technology, while others will need tools like a sewing machine, art supplies, or recycled materials. Students are encouraged to ask specific questions pertaining to their projects. Gifted students, especially, often times struggle with really listening. They hear when someone is speaking but have learned that they often know what is being shared. Outside experts are a powerful piece to the Genius Hour process. Research is something that many teachers ask about when addressing the Genius Hour process. Bringing the standards into Genius Hour can be very powerful and can help students see them differently. The project portion of Genius Hour can be the most chaotic, simply because everyone is doing something different and asking different questions. Digital portfolios are a great option and a wonderful way for students to document their learning and reflection as they work on their projects.
