ABSTRACT

This chapter explores ideas for cultivating passion in students in an era of standardized testing and school funding issues. Take a moment to think of something the people worked hard to achieve, something that required a certain amount of passion to maintain focus. Hadfield encouraged his followers to be intentional with their choices and to pursue interests that get them closer to their dreams. Creating a culture of respect begins the first day of class. Obviously autonomy looks different depending on the age of students, but it’s so very important to find little ways to hand some of the power over. Creativity should be infused into a curriculum and not just tacked on at the end as an extension activity. Design thinking is one of the more recent spins on authentic assessment. Research on passion is often tied to productivity and entrepreneurship. Cultivating passion is an everyday endeavor.
