ABSTRACT

This chapter provide ideas for how the people can educate their students’ parents on the importance of developing grit, even if it isn’t always fun. Parenting has the greatest influence on the development of children than any other factor. There are three parenting styles that are pretty widely accepted among developmental psychologists: permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative. The authoritarian parenting style is essentially the opposite of permissive. Grit is the result of persistence and passion. Grit cannot be cultivated in an environment where children are given everything they want. It also can’t be developed if they never get a taste of earned success. Remember that grit is built in passionate environments, but that it’s impossible to become truly passionate about something unless the people are immersed in it. By setting dinner expectations, chore schedules, and bedtimes, parents are providing structures that don’t require thought or reason. .
