ABSTRACT

Rebuilding family relationships, healing past wounds, and changing the future story of the family are vital to transcend the adverse experiences of the trauma. However, once these domains have begun to develop and heal, integrating the trauma story is a great way to move from surviving to thriving. When healing the family of origin is possible, remember that it is still possible to experience the community of family In that community, you are seen, heard, and valued as part of the group. As therapy continues, children and adults can learn how to talk about traumatic events without being overwhelmed by the experience or retraumatizing themselves. Role-plays can help individuals gain perspective and tap into their inner voice of wisdom to correct cognition errors. Integrating trauma stories is messy, but rewarding, work. Through the process of rewriting your trauma story, you can begin to experience more joy and fulfillment in life.
