ABSTRACT

In September, 2017, I traveled to Houston, TX, for a speaking engagement. It was about 4 weeks after Hurricane Harvey had hit. The ground was still waterlogged. The air continued to have a slight odor of mold and decay. As I got into my rental car, I noticed the detour and construction signs throughout the city and suburbs. It was surreal. I knew right then that I wanted to talk to people about the experience of living through Harvey. I wanted to hear their stories and witness the recovery efforts.
