ABSTRACT

The competitor is taken off guard when the peoples refuse to play the win-lose game. Admittedly, it often isn’t easy to think win-win with the teacher. The misdirected frustration can come across as something else—bravado, disrespect, or anger toward the teacher. Finding a solution to the problem, however, often requires that the teacher ignore all of the implied criticisms the parent brings to the conversation, which is not an easy task. Again, if the teachers can figure out what the parent really wants (and it’s not always what the parent says), the teachers may be able to find a way to work through the situation so that everyone wins, including the child.
