ABSTRACT

Like their offspring, all parents are different. Just as good teachers must develop skills to work with all kinds of students, they must also develop skills to work with all kinds of parents. After school has been in session for a few weeks, most teachers have identified some concerns they have about some of their students. Of course, a natural course of action is to meet with parents to see if they can share any insight into working with their child. Even though individual parents are different, anyone who has worked with students and their parents for a few years can’t help but notice that certain attitudes and points of view appear again and again. The names and faces change, but their expectations remain the same.
