ABSTRACT

Building knowledge is fundamental in schooling. Some knowledge is more concrete, concerning things students can see or touch. Whatever the subject matter, however, the inquiry-learning process for acquiring knowledge is: To be an inquirer entails accomplishing higher order learning objectives such as those in Bloom's revised taxonomy, especially evaluating. Acquiring knowledge is a goal and outcome of participation in inquiry-based teaching and learning, as with any other kind of formal learning. Inquiry knowledge lies in the process of inquiry-the concepts, interconnections, skills learned, and self-knowledge. Knowledge that can be shared, recorded, and passed on over time is part of the essence of being human. And wisdom is using knowledge and experience well in the exercise of sound judgment. Procedural knowledge is illustrated in this Florida school that undertook a project with relevance to the community and value to the learners: learning to make rain collection barrels.
