ABSTRACT

Student interests and curiosity are at the heart of inquiry. Interests often influence goals. When students are interested in a topic or question, they are motivated to find out more or seek answers. Interest can range from curiosity to being so absorbed in what they are doing that they lose awareness of what is going on around them. Interests reduce the burden on teachers to be responsible for decisions about finding ways to motivate students. Inquiry instruction includes finding the interests students already have as well as sparking and sustaining new interests.
