ABSTRACT

Educational administrators, both at the district and campus level, often are tasked with determining best practices and implementing them under pressures of time and funding restraints. Best practices, research-based practices, and evidence-based practices all relate to the amount and quality of the research base that supports the practice. Best practices are generally based on anecdotal evidence or professional judgment rather than systematic data collection to support their effectiveness. The set of professional learning modules was developed to provide coordinators with practical ways of implementing important evidence-based practices in gifted education. Importantly, the modules are based on sound research and field-tested applications. Given their flexibility, the professional learning modules may be used with all educators and with families in describing each evidence-based practice and implementing specific components within one or more campuses. The most important outcome for these modules is the implementation of evidence-based practices in schools.
