ABSTRACT

Clever and Smart found a puppy, and after unsuccessfully trying to locate its owner, they decided to keep the dog. Owning a pet means new responsibilities and lots of bills. Using math, they are able to get the best price on dog food, build a fence for the dog, keep track of the dog’s growth, and, of course, pay the veterinary bill. Determine the unit cost of a single pound of each kind of dog food and compare the two prices to find the best price. Clever and Smart each take turns walking the puppy. Clever walks the puppy in the morning. Last week she walked it 0.75 miles on Monday and 0.65 miles on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday she walked the puppy only 0.5 mile. Determine what percent of the yearly budget should be allotted for veterinary bills. Round the answer to the nearest hundredth.
