ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some essentials to consider when using creativity to mindfully support SEL in the classroom. The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination. Sir Ken Robinson posited that schools kill creativity. In schools, authors tend to focus on what is going on between the ears, rather than the rest of the body. He go even further to say that “between the ear” mentality is lopsided; they neglect the talents and capacities of the creative side of the brain, instead focusing on analytical activities, such as analyzing data, learning logic, and mathematical problem solving. By doing so, they ignore their students’ intuitive, instinctive, and creative talents. Creativity is the second principle in our mindfulness framework. Imagining is a mental act. As a result, unless the authors have the access, ability, and permission to utilize sophisticated brain-imaging technology, it cannot be observed or measured.
