ABSTRACT

Most recently, the author serve as the Jody and Layton Smith Professor of Psychology and Gifted Education and as the Executive Director of the Center for Gifted Education at William & Mary. In short, by establishing the gifted as different, the people become normal, thus elevating ourselves into the position of deciding what gifted people need. One of the difficult aspects of being considerate when trying to understand the social and emotional needs of gifted students is that these needs may not be static. Reflect on and discuss how the inclusion of North American minority groups (e.g., Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans) in gifted education research may change prevailing beliefs.
