ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the oft-confused concept of permutations. It discusses neophytes in probability may be quick to recall that permutations and combinations together in a statistics and probability class at some point. Learners, including adult learners, commonly feel trepidation when investigating concepts relevant to probability. This is likely because it has been suggested that probability is perhaps the most notable subdiscipline of mathematics in which intuition often leads to incorrect answers, rather than correct answers. Knowing prospective group responses or solutions to the Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) is critical to being able to assess products. Local assessment is often preferential, at least with MEAs, to assessment done by an outside source. The chapter aims to guide facilitators regarding the intent of the questions and how they can help problem solvers gain insight regarding an actual solution.
