ABSTRACT

Many people who seek treatment for their son begin with their pediatrician, especially if their son has a long-standing relationship with him or her. Pediatricians have strong knowledge of developmental sequences and see children of various ages on a daily basis. However, one thing to keep in mind is that reader's pediatrician is seeing their son in an individualized setting where little is required of him—very different from school with children, noise, and demands to complete tasks that may be uninteresting to their child. When concerns arise, some pediatricians refer to school psychologists, clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, neurologists, developmental pediatricians, or psychiatrists. Pediatricians are often interested in knowing the level of their son’s intellectual and academic functioning as well as his executive functioning skills in order to rule out learning problems as the root cause of the behavior.
