ABSTRACT

The interoceptive system is often neglected and frequently misunderstood. The interoceptive system is already little bit vague, so we have to bring awareness to that if it's in the way of function. The goal of the interoceptive system is to achieve homeostasis, or a feeling of being just right in the world. If a child is feeling that sensation all the time because they don't know to respond differently or they don't have any feedback in the interoceptive system, that can be quite disorienting. Proprioception and deep pressure input are the best ways to improve function in the interoceptive system because proprioception and deep pressure are the greatest organizers in the sensory system. Treatment of the interoceptive system will include building emotional awareness, and some activities are included later in the book to help with that area of the development.
