ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 looks at ways to communicate with your twice-exceptional child in a way that encourages connection (especially for neurodivergent kids who may have different styles of communicating). Specific communication strategies, along with examples of communication styles to avoid, are provided. Ideas for effectively using parental self-disclosure to enhance rapport and communication are provided. Information about the specific strategies for communicating with twice-exceptional children who exhibit pathological demand avoidance profiles are included.
