ABSTRACT

Programs and services for smart kids with learning difficulties must respond to a range of needs and abilities. These services need to be developed in all grades and be clearly defined and articulated for parents, students, and school staff. Students need opportunities to learn at an accelerated pace, with great depth and breadth. As educators and parents, authors must find a way of unleashing the potential and freeing the power within all of our children regardless of gender, race, cultural background, or socioeconomic levels, in order to discover their interests and develop their strengths. Student programming should include challenging instruction, flexible grouping, and schedules that enable students to spend time with their intellectual peers for in-depth study in all subject areas. Many public school systems and private schools have put in place a consultative program to meet the needs of bright students with learning challenges.
