ABSTRACT

The main purpose of the launch activity was to open a discussion about how it feels to learn. This might sound a little silly. Haven't students been learning in school for several years already? Do we really have to have this discussion? In the case of gifted learners, the answers may be surprising. When tasks are challenging, typical learners literally feel the challenge physically I call this the little icky feeling inside our stomachs—that feeling when we're a bit frustrated and uncertain if we can meet a challenge. Some students experience this feeling every day, but often gifted learners do not. We want our gifted learners to understand that this feeling is not only natural, but also good; it signifies that they are being challenged to learn and grow.
