ABSTRACT

In this chapter allows the students to analyze primary sources for a historical perspective on polio and the polio vaccine, use graphic organizers to write an explanatory essay, and create a “miracle medicine” product and accompanying advertisement for an attractive hallway display. Students with gifts and talents demonstrate cognitive growth and psychosocial skills that support their talent development as a result of meaningful and challenging learning activities that address their unique char acteristics and needs. Large problems like racism, poverty, climate change, and child mortality can seem insurmountable. Individual action locally, combined with working together in larger organizations, however, lend feelings of purposeful action as well as hope.
