ABSTRACT

Students with gifts and talents demonstrate cognitive growth and psychosocial skills that support their talent development as a result of meaningful and challenging learning activities that address their unique characteristics and needs. During the reading, students should mark questions they have and places they connect with Laynie or with the events of the story. Each student should try to determine their meaning by context only, rather than using a dictionary, and then compare their findings with two classmates. Students will engage in a several critical thinking extensions related to “Miss Laynie,” including a creative character analysis and extending their insights in real-world situations through an “advice column”.
