ABSTRACT

Every family has some sort of keepsake that reminds them of happy times, important people, or fond memories. Keepsakes can be as powerful as a collar and tags from a dog that has passed away. Students with gifts and talents demonstrate cognitive growth and psychosocial skills that support their talent development as a result of meaningful and challenging learning activities that address their unique characteristics and needs. Keepsakes are physical referent sources attached to experiences and feelings—the very defintion of a metaphor. Keepsakes encourage feelings connected to family, people, and events. They are an important part of a student’s and family’s identity.
