ABSTRACT

Makerspace activities build community. Being part of a community is important for wellbeing and gives makers the chance to practice Social-Emotional Learning skills related to Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Building, and Responsible Decision-Making. Safety should also be at the forefront. Cardboard can be used for a variety of maker activities for kids of all ages. The Makedo Scru-driver works with Makedo Scrus to secure pieces of cardboard together. The Canary cutter is harder and stronger than a Makedo saw, so there is more of a chance of a minor injury, but these are much safer than using utility knives. Canary cutters also require less strength to use than the Makedo Safe-Saw. The Canary scissors are a good choice for making these cuts easily and the tab on the Makedo Safe-Saw tool can be used to score the cardboard before making cuts.
